Living faithfully: 3 ways we weave faith into our daily lives

Jesus changed my life.

I didn’t grow up going to church. And I didn’t spend my twenties going to church either. But in my thirties, I found Jesus, the love and joy He has brought into my life, and my home is beautiful.

It can feel impossible or like you don’t know enough. Trust me, I’ve been there– and I’m still there most days.

You can do a few simple things to fill your home with the love and light of Jesus. I’m going to share 3 ways we do that in our home.

Morning Worship Music

Psychology Today shared that music is a method to regulate emotions, shifting one’s focus to the beauty of the music. That’s why we play Sleepy Jazz for the babies. The soothing rhythm of the music aids in our desired result→ babies sleeping.

Most people have songs tacked with their memories, a playlist of the peaks and valleys of their lives. A workout playlist to motivate, a string of love songs and ones that stir deep emotions in the soul.

The same is true for worship music. It triggers emotions and engages you. It leaves traces of scripture on your heart. I love to start our morning with worship music. Singing praises to our God as a part of our daily routine.

The very idea of praising God with music is written throughout the Bible. Psalm 95:1-2 says:

Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.

Now… I have not a single musical bone in my body and can’t carry a tune to save my life. BUT I will sing my heart out and get lost in the music.

That is the joy I want to share with my kids and, frankly, those around me.

Praying with the littles

Our big kids are out of the phase where we have to guide them through prayer. But when they were little, we spent time praying out loud together as a family before bed– we still pray together. It’s just not as often or as structured.

Our littles are at the foundational level. This is the phase where the wonder is high, and we are teaching them who God is and what it means to pray and have a personal relationship with Him.

So we pray with them. We pray from the heart and thank God for what He’s done. We ask Him to help us listen to our mommy and daddy, to rest our bodies and sleep well. In those moments when I peek and see both babies with hands folded, my heart is filled with joy.

These moments where we intentionally pray create stepping stones for our kids to journey this life with eternity in mind.

Praying over my family daily

Prayer is such a powerful tool. God wants to hear our prayers. He wants a personal relationship with His children. One of my favorite verses regarding prayer is Philippians 4:6-7:

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Prayer is woven throughout my day. But one thing I am intentional about is praying over my family daily. I pray for their hearts and their safety. I pray for anything they are struggling with or worried about.

A really fun thing I started doing with my big kids is asking them about their “Big 3” for the day, so I know how to pray for them:

  1. What are you excited about today?
  2. What are you worried about today?
  3. How can I pray for you today?

The beautiful thing about prayer is that it doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to be “the right words” or sound a certain way. It’s like you are talking to a friend, but this friend is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

We have seen so much beauty in Christ and the way He works. We want our family to be an example of who He is, and that starts at home.

We are NOT perfect, and we fail often. We sometimes yell and say things we shouldn’t. We are sinners, but we are saved by the blood of Jesus, and we are so grateful that because of His sacrifice, we have hope for eternity.

I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I would love to come alongside your journey and encourage you. I would also love to hear what simple things your family does to infuse your home with Jesus.
